What is "LIMEX Sheet," which can replace plastic and paper?
PRODUCT
LIMEX Sheet: Durable and Water-Resistant.
LIMEX Sheet is primarily made from limestone, offering excellent water resistance and durability. Ink does not bleed when wet, eliminating the need for lamination or waterproofing.LIMEX Sheet has been featured at innovation exhibitions alongside the UN Climate Change Conferences (COP) and G20 Energy and Environment Ministerial Meetings. It is widely adopted by many companies for printed materials such as menus for major restaurant chains, maps, brochures, clear files, and packaging. This sheet is manufactured in a domestic factory that uses 100% renewable energy, with a subsidy from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability.
Traditional paper can have fibers protruding from its cut edges, which can catch on fingers and cause cuts. The resin in LIMEX covers part of the cut surface, making it less prone to tearing and giving it a smooth, soft feel.

MATERIAL
LIMEX: A Carefully Selected Material
LIMEX is a next-generation material developed by TBM as an alternative to plastic and paper. TBM acquired the domestic patent for "LIMEX" in 2014, and its basic patents are registered in over 40 countries, including Japan, China, Europe, and the US. It is registered on UNIDO's (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) platform for promoting sustainable technologies as an excellent Japanese technology.Limestone, the main raw material, is a 100% self-sufficient resource in Japan. It is abundant worldwide and can be easily recycled and rematerialized using existing recycling facilities. Since its manufacturing process uses almost no wood or water, it helps preserve limited global resources compared to paper. Additionally, it reduces CO2 emissions throughout the product's lifecycle compared to conventional plastics.
EFFECT
The Impact of Switching to LIMEX Sheet
External Environment 01
By 2050, approximately 51%※1 of the global population could face high water risk.
External Environment 02
Global paper consumption is projected to increase by approximately 1.3 times by 2030 and 1.7 times by 2050, compared to 2015.※2
Environmental Contribution
"LIMEX Sheet" significantly reduces petroleum usage compared to conventional petroleum-derived plastic sheets.
Therefore, it contributes to the conservation of finite petroleum resources and can suppress CO2 emissions throughout the entire lifecycle, from raw material procurement to disposal (incineration).
Since "LIMEX" is easily material recycled using existing recycling facilities, similar to a single material, we offer "LIMEX R Pellet" made from re-pelletized scraps generated during the manufacturing process of "LIMEX Sheet," and "LIMEX UP Pellet" made from re-pelletized used LIMEX products.
Furthermore, there are already numerous successful material recycling initiatives in collaboration with businesses, consumers, and local governments.
We are committed to visualizing and reducing environmental impacts throughout the product lifecycle through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
